Removing Barriers & Staying in The Flow

While making my Astro blog I thought to myself;

“I will have fun writing my blog posts in VS Code, learning markdown along the way. It will be different but should be fine”

I soon noticed, I wasn’t even drawn to open up VS Code to draft up a post, I don’t know maybe it was the fact that it felt like I wasn’t writing but rather coding.

I tried turning my VS Code setup into more of a zen mode with less distractions and toolbars but the flow still did not feel right…

I then thought;

“Wait a second! I will just use Obsidian to write my posts then copy them over to my blog!”

The flow once again, just did not feel right. It was clunky. There was something missing.

The Bridge That Connected It All

I then dove into research and found ways to connect Obsidian directly to my blog as well as some other editors that work with markdown.

I even tried using Syncthing and sharing a folder, because I wanted to work locally on my desktop and laptop with my blog content. But once again, everything was just too clunky or not integrated the way I wanted.

So I remember something my father told me a long time ago, he said;

“If you want something done right, then you gotta do it yourself”

He meant, if you want it done your way then you gotta do it yourself.

So I began Vibe-Coding my own tool to manage my blog posts and projects called Blog Wiz MD.

One Step Led To The Next

I started with the raw idea and fed it to Gemini, then started refining it into a full prompt to give to my OpenCode agent (learn more about my vibe coding setup here) to scaffold it all up.

Within a day of implementations and bug fixes, I already had most features I was looking for now built in.

Now, came the fun part. Testing/using it!

I spun up the app and there I was already taking notes for my future blog posts and writing like I had been using the app for months, it felt nice.

The writing became more fluid and the words and thoughts starting pouring out to what you see here. (This blog post was made while I was testing the editor)

Then booom! I lost this blog post. Sad, I know.

But that’s what I get for writing in an actively changing development environment. Aye, I felt comfy… haha.

Luckily, I had the screenshot I took so not all the content from this post was lost. Remember to back up your work!

What is Blog Wiz MD?

Blog Wiz MD is a minimal, self-hosted markdown editor I built for Astro blogs that works with my blog posts, projects, and has note taking.

As of this post it is still currently undergoing testing and still in development.
